Legislation - U.S.A.:
Stand-Alone Ionization Technology Eliminated
The stand-alone ionization technology used in most smoke alarms
globally is finally eliminated with UL's new smoke alarm standard.
Smoke Alarms Get Smarter in 2020
Note: Due to Covid-19 new Standard release date extended to 30 June 2022
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is the world's largest standards testing organization.
New Smoke Alarm Standard
After over 40 years of warning about the inherent danger with stand-alone ionization technology, UL has finally released a legitimate (corrected) smoke alarm standard. Because of the legitimate smoldering fire test, stand-alone ionization alarms are unable to pass this new test.
see 'UL Sued' below.
Australian & N.Z. Scientific Testing Exposes UL's Flawed Standard
UL's new smoke alarm standard vindicates the decades of work by campaigners and fire safety advocates around the world who have repeatable warned about UL's flawed testing.
Consumer New Zealand & Australian Government (CSIRO) scientific testing proves
that the existing stand-alone ionization alarms in millions of homes around the world may fail to alert occupants early enough to escape from smoldering fires.
