On 20 June 2013, in his ‘Smoke Alarms’ speech to the NSW Parliament, Mr Christopher Gulaptis, MP asked, “Are ionization smoke alarms defective?”
His Open Letters to United Technologies Corporation (UTC) and the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) requested disclosure of the level of smoke the Quell branded (UTC) ionization smoke alarm in his own home activated under Standards Australia testing.
Mr Gulaptis also requested the CSIRO allow the media to film the CSIRO's testing.
